About
Stephen studied fine art sculpture and stone carving at the renowned City and Guilds of London Art School. Here he learnt to sculpt and draw the human figure from life using the traditional methods of teaching with its emphasis on the accurate depiction of the live and form found in the anatomy of the human figure. This gave Stephen the solid, classical foundations on which he has built his remarkable skills in capturing life in clay.
Whether it be classical sculpture, portraiture or animal studies Stephen manages to express the essence of movement and form in his work. He has a stylistic flair married to an exceptional fine eye for accuracy.
Stephen works predominantly in clay from life from which the sculpture can be fired to produce terracotta or moulded and cast in bronze, lead or an array of different materials. Clay affords Stephen the ability to work quickly and instinctively from his subject manifesting in striking works full of life and vigour.
Stephen works out of a Workshop on the Wilton Estate in Wiltshire, UK .
